A Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is a preferential trade agreement aimed at promoting mutual trade by reducing or eliminating tariff and non-tariff barriers on goods, services, investment, intellectual property rights, and government procurement among member countries. FTAs primarily focus on the elimination of tariffs.
In response to the global trend of expanding FTAs, Korea has actively pursued FTAs to secure stable overseas markets and enhance the competitiveness of its economy through openness. As a result, Korea has implemented FTAs with 57 countries, including Chile, Singapore, EFTA, ASEAN, India, the EU, Peru, the United States, Turkey, Australia, Canada, China, New Zealand, Vietnam, Colombia, and Central American countries
